Job applications – keep motivated throughout December

Most people assume that because it’s December, job advertising in the healthcare and nursing sector slows down and employers don’t want to recruit staff before the holidays. Not so my friends, recruitment is now a 12 month of the year activity and new jobs are always being posted.

Some nursing and midwifery candidates won’t be actively looking for jobs because they think the industry is too quiet in December and not enough new jobs are advertised, so you could take advantage of this and get your application in now. While it’s true that there is often a surge of recruiting activity in January, that shouldn’t stop you applying now. You could end up missing out on the job you really wanted because you were holding out for the January rush.

Both private sector companies and public sector organisations are advertising for nurses and midwives, so take a look for your ideal job. If you want to be notified each time a job that matches your requirements is posted, simply login to your account on Nurses.co.uk and check your job alert email criteria. You can select the kind of jobs you want to be notified of and how often you want to be emailed with new jobs.

The golden rule of applying for jobs online is to make sure you give accurate, clear and relevant information about you as a nurse / midwife. Don’t make the employer decipher your CV or work out whether you’re qualified – lay it all out in logical order for them to see. These simple points will really help:

1 – Make sure your NMC pin number is right at the top of your CV along with your address, email address, phone numbers.
2 – Give your employment history in chronological order being sure to account for any gaps that you were job seeking or taking a break for family.
3 – Go into detail about your current employment responsibilities, professional development achievements and why your experience is ideal for the job.
